The Path of The Spider
Conscious Creation- Building the magical life we TRULY desire.
An Animal Spirit & Archetype to work with for Manifestation

Key Energy:  Creativity & The Weaving Of Fate

Spider first started coming into my awareness about two years ago when Tracey and I were doing Animal Spirit Readings.

We were pulling spider as one of the animal messengers for almost every single person who signed up for a reading!

The message of being a conscious creator and weaving your own reality came up reading after reading.

I have invited spider to be a part of my totem ever since.

Do I like spiders in real life? No I do not. I try to make nice with them as best I can, because I truly do appreciate them as a messenger and as an archetype of a Reality Weaver.

You can find some fascinating lore about the spider. In India Spider is associated with the weaver of illusion. (This makes me think of the ‘fake it til you make it’ vibe. Believe it to be true until it’s true!).

In Greek Mythology Spider is the connection to the Fates. In Scandinavian lore- it represents women who would weave, measure, and cut the threads of life.

The shape of a spider is linked to the form of the figure eight. On its side, it is a symbol of infinity and the wheel of life flowing from one circle to the next.

The difficulty of the spider comes in when it is learning to walk those circles and hold position within the middle of the two. (This is where our guide The Owl comes into this totem, teaching us to find balance when walking between the two worlds; the seen and unseen).

One lesson we learn from spider is how to maintain our balance between our past and our future. Between our spiritual and human worlds. When in shadow, spider shows us how we become caught in the web of the past. When in empowerment, spider teaches us that everything we do now is weaving what we will experience in the future. When in an empowered state, spider does not get trapped in an old web.

The Spider is also a lunar symbol with connection to the waxing and waning moon because it is always weaving new webs.

Spiders possess a combination of gentleness and strength, and therefore brings us another symbol of balance. Balance is so important in manifestation work. You have to find that balance between the shadows and the light, between the soul desires and the shadow desires, between the why and how you do things. When you manifest from a solid foundation, you have more clarity and awareness, and the materialization of your desire happens quicker and more efficiently. Anything in excess is in shadow in some form or another.

Spiders can easily maintain their balance as they walk across their tiny silken threads. Spider represents maintaining balance while walking the threads of fate.

Another way spider comes in to work with us in our Manifestation Path Work is by awakening our creative senses.  A spider’s web often contains spiral shapes. The spiral is a symbol of creativity and development.

When the spider is in the center of its own web, it shows us that it is the creator of its own reality, and reminds us that you CAN live in “your own little world” that doesn’t make sense to anyone else but you. Spider teaches us to work with our own unique codes for optimal manifestation success.

Another reason I love to work with Spider symbolism is the fact that a spider will weave its web anywhere it sees fit. The big humans and pets in the house don’t scare it off. If a spider likes a location, it is going to go right ahead and weave a web there.

Through polarity and balance, creativity is awakened. This fits together well with my practice of finding gold in ALL situations and ebbs and flows of polarity. Becoming a conscious creator through all of it.

Think about how spiders often reside in the dark inaccessible spaces of your home. This can be very symbolic of weaving your threads of creation in the dark (in the unknown). A spider does not wait for the blueprints before weaving a web. This teaches us to create and believe, even if we don’t have all the steps. It’s OK to be in the dark…you only ever need your next right action step anyway. Spider teaches us to let go of that need for the entire blueprint before we will take a step forward.

There is also lore about the first true alphabet originating from the geometric patterns and angles in the web of a spider. This is how spider became a symbol and teacher of language and the magic of writing. If you weave magic with the written word (words are spells!), you likely have spider as a part of your animal spirit entourage!

Spider Medicine Journal Prompts:
Are you moving toward a central goal or are you scattered and going in multiple directions?
Is everything staying focused?
Are you becoming too involved and/or self-absorbed?
Are you focusing on other’s accomplishments and not on your own?
Are you developing resentment because of it- for yourself or others?

Some questions to ask yourself if spider keeps appearing in your life:

Are you not weaving your dreams and imaginings into reality?
Are you expecting your dreams to weave themselves into reality?
Are you not using your creative opportunities?
Are you feeling closed in or stuck as if in a web?
Do you need to pay attention to your balance and where you are walking in life?
Are others out of balance around you?
Do you need to write?
Are you inspired to write or draw and not following through?

Spider and Raven work well together, and they just so happen to be two of our Wayward Path Work Guides. To learn more about Raven Medicine check out the blog here: https://www.waywardwitchco.com/blog/raven
