Emotions are powerful forces—energetic, physical, and spiritual. Yet, many of us avoid them, suppress them, or worse, shame ourselves for feeling them.
What happens when we do this?
Those emotions don’t vanish.
They grow, fester, and eventually hijack our energy, affecting everything from our relationships to our finances and ability to manifest.
When you avoid emotions, you create resistance in your energy field.
That resistance becomes a block, not just in your personal growth but in how you connect with the universe.
Money? Love? Opportunities? They struggle to flow into a space cluttered with unresolved emotional energy.
On a physical level, suppressed emotions manifest as tension, fatigue, and even illness.
Emotion is "energy in motion."
When you stop that motion, it stagnates. Imagine trying to build your dream life while carrying the weight of unprocessed energy. It’s exhausting and unsustainable.
To shift this dynamic, you must treat emotions like visitors—not permanent residents.
Here’s how:
Welcome the Emotion
Instead of pushing it away, invite your emotion in. Ask yourself: What are you here to tell me? Emotions are messengers. Sadness might be asking for rest; anger might be calling for boundaries. Listen without judgment.
Create a Safe and Sacred Space
Journaling, meditation, or a few quiet minutes with yourself can provide the container you need to process emotions without overwhelm. Safe spaces allow the emotion to flow through instead of getting stuck.
Release the Judgment
Stop labeling emotions as "bad" or "good." They’re all part of the human experience. Shame and guilt about feeling something only amplify the discomfort. Accept the emotion for what it is—a momentary state, not your identity.
Breathe
Literally. Just stop, drop, and take a breath. Deep, intentional breathing helps regulate your nervous system. When you feel overwhelmed, place one hand on your heart, one on your belly, and take a few slow breaths. This grounds you and brings you back to your body. Coming from an OVERLY anxious person, if you stop to take the time out to put this into regular practice, it does work.
Move
Energy thrives in motion. Dance, stretch, go for a walk—anything that gets your energy flowing will help the emotion move through.
Speak It or Write It
Find words for your emotions. Speak them out loud or journal them. Name what you’re feeling, and watch its grip loosen. When emotions are acknowledged, they don’t need to shout.
The fear of looking at emotions often stems from the belief that they’ll consume you. But here’s the truth: Emotions are temporary waves, not endless oceans. The only way out is through. Start small. Tackle one emotion at a time.
Find support. Whether through a trusted friend, coach, or community, sharing the journey lightens the load. You don’t have to do this alone.
Create Anchor Rituals
Choose activities that help you feel the way you want to feel. Gratitude practices, lighting a candle with intention, or sipping tea mindfully can help anchor you in peace, joy, or abundance. I personally also like to work with crystals as talismans, as they are my constant reminder to get back into an aligned state of being.
Shift Perspective
Every emotion has a counterpart. Anxiety can transform into excitement. Frustration can evolve into determination. Ask yourself: How can I reinterpret this feeling into something empowering?
Celebrate Micro Wins
Every time you face an emotion, celebrate it. Acknowledge your bravery in showing up for yourself. Each small step builds confidence in your ability to handle more.
